Class of 2024 Inducted into NHS and JNHS

In a symbolic ceremony held April 10 in the Paul L. Baumgardner Auditorium, 17 Cuyahoga Heights High School (CHHS) students were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS).  In the same ceremony, 16 Cuyahoga Heights Middle School students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

“Being a member of NHS or NJHS can be a valuable and rewarding experience that can provide opportunities for personal growth, connection, and future success,” said Cuyahoga Heights Middle School/High School Principal Scott DeTray. He thanked the inductees’ parents and families for their role in helping the inductees to become the young people they are today. “I strongly believe that your guidance, support, and influence is ultimately responsible for shaping who they are and setting the stage for all things that they will do in the future,” he said.

NHS Advisor Megan Neville and NJHS Advisor Desiree Siley read descriptions of each tenet or “pillar” to which all inductees aspire while current NHS members took turns lighting a candle representing each pillar. For the NHS, these pillars include scholarship, leadership, character, and service. For the NJHS, a fifth candle representing citizenship was also lit.

“Taken together, these pillars represent a comprehensive framework for personal growth and development,” noted DeTray. Led by Siley, the new NJHS inductees recited the NJHS pledge. She was followed by Neville who led the new NHS inductees in the NHS pledge. Each student was presented a certificate and signed their name to the register certifying their induction.

The new NJHS inductees are Benjamin Armbrust, Joee Cichocki, Addison Deka, Kyle Goines, Sophia Harter, Sophia Jackson, Nolan Juhnke, Sophia Mecklemburg, Akzell Patz, Madeline Perconti, Josephine Ratkosky, Caleigh Rusch, Cailey Sane, Victor Torres, Johnny Urbanic, and Zhou We Ni. Each was presented a certificate and signed their name to a register.

New NHS inductees are Ava Brych, Marco Chieffallo, Gavin Cline, Daniel Cichocki, Nicholas Dabrowski, Sophia Kish, Anthony Kondash, Sarah Kitral, Andres Kurta, Tristan Li, Antonio McCladdie, Isabella Passalacqua, Anastasia Ratkosky, Gavin Skuhrovec, Saviana Taylor, Samantha Vallee, and Sophia Winslow.

“We look forward to seeing what you accomplish in your new roles as members of the NHS and NJHS,” said Mrs. Neville in concluding the ceremony.
